It is also great for gluten-sensitive people as any ingredient can be substituted for gluten-free versions.
Which nut butter works best for almond flour waffles?
You have a variety of nut butters to choose from. Peanut butter goes great with raspberry or grape syrup and makes it taste like a PB&J sandwich. Almond butter is expensive, but is also your most nutritious option, containing essential fibers, vitamins, and minerals. Cashew butter tends to be creamy and is great for giving your waffles a rich, fluffy texture. Non-dessertified hazelnut butter is awesome for giving your waffles a chocolatey taste, but keep in mind that it may take a higher quantity for it to work. Finally, walnut butter works best as a mix-in for almost every baking situation and is great at reducing LDL cholesterol.
With that being said, here is the recipe for keto nut butter almond waffles. Sugar is optional as it adds a lot of unnecessary carbs, but makes your waffles taste sweeter. If you still want to use a sweetener, but don’t want to use sugar, stevia and other sugar substitutes work great. You must have a waffle iron before making this recipe!
Almond Flour Waffles Health Benefits
Some people ask, why not make waffles using regular all-purpose flour instead? After all, almond flour is more expensive and requires more focus on moisture to make a good flour.
Almond flour is different for a reason: it has plenty of health benefits that make it worth using as a base for your waffles (and pancakes). Since almond flour originates from blanched, crushed almonds that have been grinded down into a satisfyingly smooth flour, it retains almost all of the health benefits that almond nuts have. The following health benefits are great reasons to make your own almond flour waffles at home:
- Almond flour has much more vitamins and minerals. Almond flour has much more fiber and nutrients than AP flour, which usually has almost nothing going for it in terms of nutrition. Almond flour has more amino acids, soluble fiber, monounsaturated fats, and has much less carbohydrates and glucose than all-purpose flour. As a result, almond flour is usually my preferred go-to option for flours, along with other healthy flours such as coconut and oat flour.
- It’s gluten-free. For those who are allergic to gluten, or simply prefer to avoid it, almond flour is a great flour choice, especially if you like eating fibrous foods in the morning. From what I’ve noticed, gluten can cause me upset stomach sometimes, although this could be a personal issue, and maybe you can relate to that.
- Almond flour is better for heart health. Anything made with almond flour has good amounts of vitamin E and unsaturated fat. These nutrients help support good cardiovascular flow and long-term heart strength.
- It fits perfectly in keto-friendly/weight loss diets. One of the problems persistent when trying keto diets is that it can sometimes be tough trying to find a low-carb breakfast food that not only tastes good, but also keeps you full for long. Almond flour waffles solves that issue, as you will be consuming waffles that are high in fiber, amino acids, and healthy fat. And with how many different toppings and mix-ins you can use, you will have so much delicious variety when making your own waffles.
Almond flour has even more benefits compared to other flours that I didn’t cover. If you want to learn even more about almond flour and all the things it does differently from other flours, check out my Almond Flour Comparison Guide here.
